The Brewers beat writer, Tom Haudricourt, adds that Rodriguez would make $3 million in the first year and $6 million in the second year. The remainder will be deferred or put into the club option but the amount put into each has not been disclosed.
Rodriguez, 33, has spent the majority of the past four seasons with the Brewers. Last year, “K-Rod” pitched to a 3.04 ERA over 68.0 innings in 69 games while saving 44 games and striking out just over one per inning (9.7). As a member of the Brewers, Rodriguez has posted a 3.11 ERA with 204 strikeouts over 193.2 innings.
The Milwaukee Brewers signing of the five-time All-Star has an impact on a potential trade that was frequently mentioned over the course of the offseason for Philadelphia Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon. The signing would likely rule out the Brewers as a likely landing spot for the 34-year-old Papelbon.
