Mitchell Trubisky (QB, CHI) - Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 23% of Leagues

ANALYSISWhile Mitchell Trubisky was close to pulling another upset against Green Bay this past Sunday, he ultimately fell short and Chicago conceded another loss. Not everything is bad for fantasy owners, though, as Trubisky excelled once again. He wasn’t that good if looking at him from a real-life angle (54.7 completion rate, two interceptions) but his 334 yards on 29 completions (53 attempts, which implies the volume is massive) and a touchdown were more than enough to help him finish the day with a pretty good 24.1 fantasy points.

This last game marked Trubisky’s second-highest mark on passing yardage only four yards behind his 338-yard effort against Detroit in Week 13. No matter the matchup’s difficulty, Trubisky has stepped up his game and is currently in a four-game streak in which he’s scored 24-plus fantasy points. The value has come in three multi-touchdown games (one score on the ground, too), and this Sunday was the first in the last four in which Trubisky one threw/ran for a single touchdown in that span.

While Trubisky is an erratic performer that not many NFL teams would like to have as his no. 1, clear-cut option, he is still a really valid play in deep and 2QB leagues. Kansas City has a worse defense (14th against QBs) than those of Dallas (11th) and Green Bay (8th), and Trubisky scored big-time points against those. This could be another good weekend for Trubisky at least in fantasy terms, so I’d advise going with him in a secondary spot in your lineup. Too risky to trust as a lone starter in fantasy with the championship on the line, but definitely a safe play as a second-fiddle point-getter at the position for your team.
