Chicago White Sox
Matt Lindstrom limped off the field Monday night with a foot/ankle injury that didn’t look good. Jake Petricka picked up the save on Monday but look for Daniel Webb and Ronald Belisario to share the duties with Webb getting first crack since Belisario pitched 2 innings on Monday.
Cleveland Indians
Cody Allen blew the save Monday night in Cleveland. It was actually his second consecutive bad outing and Bryan Shaw should get the next opportunity. Allen is great in the 8th inning but can’t seem to produce as well in the 9th.
Oakland Athletics
Looks as though Sean Doolittle will get the closing opportunities for now as Manager Bob Melvin said he would have had first crack if the Athletics were in a closing situation.
Oakland been blowing teams out, limiting the closing opportunities. Luke Gregerson could get a chance if the opposing team was right handed heavy in the 9th inning, but Doolittle is the guy to own here.
Identity Thieves
These are a few relievers who have a chance to steal the closer’s identity, or at least vulture a few saves in the short term.
Sam Lecure: Aroldis Chapman had 29 pitches in his blown save Monday and Broxton has pitched 2 games in a row.
Neil Ramirez: Ramirez has impressed since his call up and Manager Ricky Renteria has stated that he doesn’t want to overuse Hector Rondon.
John Axford: Starting to turn it around, if Shaw fails like Allen has, Axford could get another crack at the role.
