Tuesday's pitching slate shapes up as a rough one for pitching on daily sites. Jacob deGrom is really the only pitcher who qualifies as an ace and even he disappointed in his last start against the Padres. With all the cheap options out there, everyone is going to have great bats in their lineups, so finding the right value pitcher will be extra important on this slate.
In this article, I’ll be providing you with the top starting pitcher streamers for daily fantasy baseball (DFS) and for seasonal leagues for 5/10/16. These streamers will range from high-priced / high-ownership options to low-priced / low-ownership options, and will be sleepers and value picks for your cash games and GPPs on DraftKings and FanDuel, and also for seasonal leagues with daily lineups.
There'll be three main sections of this article: our Pitcher Matchups Tool’s top plays, my value plays, and pitchers to fade. I highly recommend you check out the Daily Pitcher Matchups Ratings tool - it's an extremely useful tool for daily fantasy or seasonal streaming for finding the diamonds in the rough. Anyways, let's get cracking!
Daily Pitcher Matchup Ratings Tool Top Plays
Adam Conley (MIA) vs. Brewers
FanDuel - $8,400 / DraftKings - $7,500
This may surprise you, but Conley is the top ranked pitcher according to the matchup ratings tool. Conley just saw the Brewers two starts ago and shut them out over 7.2 innings in hitter-friendly Miller Park. He gets a huge park factor upgrade in this start as the game is being played at Marlins Park. He's reasonably priced and should have high ownership percentage on today's slate.
Kevin Gausman (BAL) @ Twins
FanDuel - $7,700 / DraftKings - $8,200
Gausman has pitched well in his three starts since returning from the DL and has big strikeout upside in Tuesday's tilt with the Twins. Minnesota's 23.0% strikeout rate against right-handers ranks eighth-highest in the league. Look for Gausman to continue his success here.
Derek Holland (TEX) vs. White Sox
FanDuel - $7,400 / DraftKings - $6,200
Holland ties with Gausman for the second-best rating on the matchup tool, but this is a stay away. He is coming off a shellacking by the Blue Jays and will pitch in hitter-friendly U.S. Cellular Field. The White Sox aren't great against left-handed pitching, but they aren't terrible, either. With big-time right-handed power hitters Jose Abreu and Todd Frazier holding down the middle of that lineup, Holland can be safely avoided.
Matt’s Value Plays of the Day
Juan Nicasio (PIT) @ Reds
FanDuel - $7,900 / DraftKings - $6,300
Nicasio can be an excellent daily pitcher if you pick and choose his matchups carefully. His last start against the Cubs was an easy fade, but today's start against the Reds has some potential. He took on the Reds two starts ago and was dominant. He shut them out over seven innings while striking out eight. The Reds offense has been showing some signs of life as of late, but Nicasio has too much upside here.
Joe Ross (WAS) vs. Tigers
FanDuel - $8,100 / DraftKings - $7,700
The matchup with Detroit isn't ideal, but it seems like we've been waiting for the Tigers to hit their stride all year and that hasn't happened yet. The discount on Ross is excellent as he's priced lower than several less desirable pitchers on the slate. He shut down a dangerous Cubs lineup in his last outing, showing he can hold down the best lineups when he's on his game.
Starting Pitchers to Fade in Daily Fantasy Baseball
Wade Miley (SEA) vs. Rays
FanDuel - $6,900 / DraftKings - $8,600
Miley has been a pleasant surprise this season after a nightmare 2015 campaign. That being said, I still have a hard time trusting him, especially against a Rays offense that is crushing lefties this season. Miley's price on DraftKings is just too high considering the matchup. He's alright as a tournament option on FanDuel as his price is much more palatable.
Trevor Bauer (CLE) @ Astros
FanDuel - $7,500 / DraftKings - $9,000
Bauer's price on DraftKings is nuts. The right-hander has good stuff, but walks too many batters and just doesn't have the upside required to pay $9,000 for on any daily site.
