Welcome to the weekend everybody. It's Clayton Kershaw Day in the most advantageous matchup he will see all year, plus we have Chris Sale and more on the plate.
In this article, I’ll be providing you with the top starting pitcher streamers for daily fantasy baseball (DFS) and for seasonal leagues for 6/4/16. These picks will range from high-priced / high-ownership options to low-priced / low-ownership options, and will be sleepers and value picks for your cash games and GPPs on DraftKings and FanDuel, and also for seasonal leagues with daily lineups.
There'll be three main sections of this article: our Pitcher Matchups Tool’s top plays, my value plays, and pitchers to fade. I highly recommend you check out the Daily Pitcher Matchups Ratings tool - it's an extremely useful tool for daily fantasy or seasonal streaming for finding the diamonds in the rough. Anyways, let's get cracking!
Daily Pitcher Matchup Ratings Tool Top Plays
Clayton Kershaw (SP, LAD) vs Braves
This should be a crime. The Braves .573 OPS versus LHP is easily the worst in baseball. In his last start versus Atlanta this year he was dominant (8 IP, ER, 10 K). The easiest 50/50 play of the day (maybe the year).
Rich Hill (SP, OAK) at Astros
Hill has had a quality start in eight straight outings and has been better on the road (1.40 ERA) than at home (3.55 ERA). The Astros have been average versus LHP, slugging .401 (16th in baseball).
Chris Sale (SP, CWS) at Tigers
While most action will be on Kershaw, Sale should see a low ownership today. The Tigers have the 22nd best slugging versus LHP. The White Sox will be a heavy favorite with Mike Pelfrey on the mound, making Sale a safe pick.
Max’s Value Plays of the Day
Jeremy Hellickson (SP, PHI) vs Brewers
Hellickson has a quality start in four straight appearances and has seen his ERA drop from 4.91 to 3.68. He's been excellent versus the Brew Crew in his career (18 IP, 2.00 ERA).
Junior Guerra (SP, MIL) at Phillies
Guerra has been on a bit of a roll, posting a 23/7 K/BB ratio in his past three starts. The Phillies .652 OPS versus RHP is 28th in baseball. For you gamblers, the under should hit in this contest.
Chad Bettis (SP, COL) at Padres
With how bad Bettis has been lately and how good the Padres offense has been, this is very risky. That said, the Padres .635 OPS versus RHP is 29th in baseball. The ownership should be at bare minimum, making this a nice tourney play.
Starting Pitchers to Fade in Daily Fantasy Baseball
Marcus Stroman (SP, TOR) at Red Sox
You want to bet against the Red Sox offense? Have at it. Their .850 OPS versus RHP is 35 points better than the next closest team. I'll pass on HDMH today.
Michael Wacha (SP, STL) vs Giants
Wacha has been surprisingly putrid, posting a 4.99 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. Combine that with the low strikeout potential and you have a poor play on a day with excellent pitching options.
