Yadier Molina will start at catch and bat seventh for the St. Louis Cardinals for Friday’s Game 1 of the NLDS.
Molina will wear a splint to cover his left sprained left thumb that has kept him out of action since Sept. 20. The two-time World Series winner is feeling well enough to get out there and be behind the plate for the NL Central winners against the Chicago Cubs.

The seven-time Gold Glover and All-Star will likely bring in his .270 BA, 4 HR and 61 RBI 2015 season into the postseason. It might be even more important that the St. Louis pitching staff gets to throw to their usual battery-mate while having the catcher that has the experience of two World Series victories.
Stephen Piscotty will start at first base while Matt Adams will be relegated to the bench. The outfield will be filled with a healthy Matt Holliday, Jason Heyward and Randal Grichuk.
