Mondesi Makes MLB History With Debut In WS

Raul Mondesi made MLB history on Friday when he became the first player to make his MLB debut during a World Series.

The Kansas City Royals infielder pinched-hit in the fifth inning of the game for pitcher Matt Duffy. Mondesi struck out swinging against Noah Syndergaard on an almost 100 mph fastball.

Even though the Royals lost the game and their series lead against the New York Mets is now at 2-1, it was an historic moment for the son of a former big leaguer. Despite the league being in existence for well over a century, there was never a player to make their debut in the World Series. Mondesi will always have that claim to fame.

The 20-year-old had a .243/.279/.372 batting line with 6 HR, 33 RBI and 19 SB over 81 games this season. Mondesi can play both short and second base while also able to steal bases as a possible pinch-runner. He made the World Series roster because there’s a chance that Ben Zobrist would have to leave the team if his wife gives birth to their baby.
