BALLER MOVE: Add in Deeper Leagues / All AL-Only Leagues
ANALYSIS: Since being recalled from the minors in mid-August, Mookie Betts has been playing much better and has made his way onto our waiver wire sleepers list for fantasy baseball. One thing I like a lot about Mookie, aside from his name, is that he's SS or 2B eligible in some formats. Oh, and also his speed. Both components give him sneaky value in fantasy leagues down the home stretch.
Betts has been getting regular playing time of late, and over the last 7 days has racked up 3 SB and 1 HR to go along with 3 Runs. Not too shabby, especially from your shortstop, second base or middle infield position. Will Betts win you a league? Most likely not. But in deeper formats, such as those with middle infield slots, or AL-Only leagues, Betts should be grabbed off the waiver wire as a nice upside flier. If he can unleash some of that pedigree and upside going forward, he can be a solid fantasy contributor for your teams down the home stretch. Betts is currently only owned in 9% of Yahoo leagues, and 3% of Fleaflicker leagues, so he's still widely available.
Update 8/29 (late evening): The above was written earlier today, and Mookie Betts went 2-for-4 tonight with a grand slam. He continues to hit well and play every day for the Red Sox. He now has 3 SB, 2 HR, 5 RBI and 4 Runs over the past 7 days including tonight's game.
