Nathan Eovaldi (SP, MIA) - Waiver Wire Analysis

ANALYSIS: Yordano Ventura made waves in the preseason with his blazing fastball and after a quick start he is owned in almost every league out there. Are you upset that you missed out on him? Well lucky for you the second hardest throwing SP in the league has better control, an above average strikeout rate and sports a 3.17 ERA in 24 starts from 2013-14. Even better, Nathan Eovaldi is shockingly available in 58% of Yahoo! Leagues. It baffles me that Eovaldi has flown so under the radar. His fastball averages 96.0 MPH and he is 6^th among qualified pitchers in BB%.  Eovaldi gets ahead of hitters (8th in First Strike %), pounds the strike zone (2nd in Zone %), and puts hitters away (34th in K%, 10th in ground ball %).  That combination of skills is elite and is hard to come by. The biggest drawback for Eovaldi is that wins will be tough on the Marlins, but they are a better team than given credit for. As long as you can handle the occasional frustration of a great performance without a win, Eovaldi is a must own in all leagues.
