Worth the Investment
Russell Westbrook (OKC, PG) - $10,800
Two big pieces of news that should help Westbrook in a big way came out in that Kevin Durant is again out and the game against the Knicks looks to be on as scheduled tonight. If both of those turn out true it is hard to imagine anyone other than Westbrook being the top play of the day.
Do not let his last outing against the Timberwolves scare you as he simply could not find his shot all night. Look for Westbrook to get locked in early in this game and get back on a hot streak.
In the last nine games, Russy has three games over 50 fantasy points including a monster 65.5 fantasy point triple double against Golden State. Going against a Knicks team that has no one who can slow down Westbrook should mean a monster game for the Thunder point guard.
Greg Monroe (DET, PF) - $8,600
In case you have not played fantasy basketball for a few weeks, Monroe is on fire! The Pistons big man has double figures in rebounds in six straight games and prior to last night had nine straight games over 30 fantasy points. It has to be great news to fantasy owners when Monroe has an off night like last night and still manages to post 28.4 fantasy points.
On top of all that, Monroe gets to face a Sixers team that is in the bottom of the league against every fantasy position in the game. Outside of Westbrook, expect Monroe to have the highest ownership percentage on the board tonight.
Al Jefferson (CHA, C) - $8,100
If you are looking to differentiate yourself from the field with a top player, Jefferson is likely your best bet. Now with four games under his belt since injury, he should be able to go full tilt after getting 30 minutes in their last game.
With Kemba Walker now out with knee surgery the Hornets are desperate for any offense which means they are likely to feed Jefferson the ball all game. Also helping Jefferson is the fact that Bismack Biyombo is out with a bone bruise meaning he should slide back into the starting rotation and see well over 30 minutes.
A matchup with the Spurs is less than ideal, so Jefferson is likely to be under-owned. Make sure to utilize Charlotte’s top scorer and rebounder.
Sleeper Picks
Lance Stephenson (CHA, SG) - $5,200
Speaking of the depleted Hornets, another potential GPP stud from their team tonight is Stephenson. As mentioned, Walker and Biyombo are out, which leaves the team with a limited amount of options on both ends of the floor.
Enter the do it all guard in Stephenson who has slowly worked his way back from injury, and the dog house, to see a two week high 29 minutes against the Knicks in Charlotte’s last game.
Stephenson is capable of big games due to his all-around scoring ability from points, to rebounds, assists and steals. His 9.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists on the year do not look great, but considering the number of players out, Born Ready could be in line for one of his patented 10 point, rebound and assist triple doubles.
Jerami Grant (PHI, PF) - $3,600
If you want to roll with Westbrook and Monroe tonight you are going to need some deep sleepers. Enter Grant at near minimum salary for Philadelphia.
The rookie has played over 20 minutes in nine straight games despite not being over 30 in any of them. Grant has also shown a propensity to put up all-around stats with double figure points four times in the last nine games and games of 8 and 4 blocks in the last four outings.
With no games of over 23 fantasy points he does have limited upside, however he only needs 18 points to hit 5x value which should be doable tonight against a Pistons team that is far from a defensive juggernaut.
