NBA Rookie Fantasy Profile: Donovan Mitchell

Analysis: For quite some time, Mitchell was seen as a second round pick, but there were rumblings that he could work his way into the top-10 slightly before the draft. That obviously never came to fruition, but he he did help his stock quite a bit while showing off his athleticism. Ultimately, the Utah Jazz took a chance on him after trading away Trey Lyles for this pick.

Mitchell played limited minutes his freshman season before improving in nearly all facets of the game as a sophomore. In his final season, he averaged 15.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.1 steals in 32.3 minutes per game. He's a player that was the focal point of the offense, but also displayed tremendous defensive potential. He also shot 46.3% from two-point range, 35.4% from three-point range, and 80.6% from the free throw line. His three-point percentage was the most impressive after shooting only 25.0% during his freshman campaign.

Mitchell was seen as a bit of a reach on draft night, but Utah fans were pleasantly surprised by his play during the Summer League. In five Summer League games, Mitchell averaged 20.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 4.4 steals per game. He will likely be one of the first guards off the bench, and he has the potential to play both point guard and shooting guard.

Bottom Line: Mitchell will likely play solid minutes from the start of the season. He can immediately produce points, rebounds, assists, and steals. Rebounds and assists are not his specialty, but he has displayed the ability to produce them any time he is given minutes.
