NBA Rookie Fantasy Profile: Lauri Markkanen

Analysis: Markkanen was seen as a lottery pick, but most mock drafts predicted he would not be selected in the top-10 picks. It was far from shocking that the Bulls opted to draft one of the best big men in the draft after trading Taj Gibson to the Thunder. This is seemingly a perfect matchup, though, as Markkanen will immediately have a role and the Bulls were in need of a stretch four.

Markkanen had some of the best shooting touch of any big man in the NCAA, as he shot 54.5% from two-point range, 42.3% from three-point range, and 83.5% from the line. Markkanen stands seven feet tall, but has the shooting touch of guards. He was also able to average 15.6 points and 7.2 rebounds in 30.8 minutes per game for Arizona.

Markkanen is expected to be the first big man off the bench this season, but he should still see plenty of playing time on a rebuilding roster. He will quickly push Bobby Portis for the starting power forward job, but he is likely too small to start at center this season. Regardless of his immediate role, Markkanen could take over the offense as the season progresses, and he comes with great upside.

Bottom Line: Markkanen could see big minutes immediately, but he only produces points and rebounds. He also comes with good percentages. He needs to add more muscle before adding more defensive statistics, including blocks, though.
