NBA Waiver Wire: Category Streamers - Weekend Edition (Week 2)

Looking for some last minute weekend moves to help you steal an extra category in your H2H matchup this week?  Look no further than RotoBaller's Weekend Category Streamers.  If you're looking for more general, longer-term adds, be sure to also check out our weekly waiver wire centers, guards, and forwards.

NBA Waiver Wire: Category Streamers – Weekend Edition (Week 2)

Weekend of 11/7 & 11/8

Teams with 2 games: None

Teams with 0 games: BOS, DEN

Points

Nik Stauskas (SG, PHI)

Owned in 20% of Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Leagues

Weekend Schedule: Saturday, Nov. 7 vs Orlando

ANALYSIS: After missing the 76ers season opener, Stauskas returned last Friday night and saw 21 minutes of action. His time on the court has increased significantly in Philadelphia’s two games this week, playing 29 minutes followed by 35 on Wednesday night. In 3 games, Stauskas has averaged over 13 ppg on just under 12 attempts. With few NBA-caliber players in the Sixers backcourt, Stauskas will continue to see heavy minutes and is a lock to launch multiple three-point attempts as well.

Rebounds

Nemanja Bjelica (PF, MIN)

Owned in 8% of Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Leagues

Weekend Schedule: Saturday, Nov. 7 @ Chicago

ANALYSIS: The Timberwolves signed the 27-year-old Serbian rookie in a move that generated few headlines. Bjelica, however, is the reigning Euro league MVP and has impressed on the glass in the early going. In his last two games (Minnesota plays Thursday night), Bjelica has averaged over 28 minutes per game and has hauled in 8.5 rpg. No forward or center played more than his 31 minutes of action Monday, and is the clear backup to Kevin Garnett, who has played over 20 minutes just once. Bjelica has shown a real knack for rebounding, and will continue that this weekend against a tough Bulls frontcourt.

Assists

T.J. McConnell (PG, PHI)

Owned in 23% of Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Leagues

Weekend Schedule: Saturday, Nov. 7 vs Orlando

ANALYSIS: If McConnell is available in your leagues, now is the time to pounce. The undrafted point guard out of Arizona fought his way onto the Sixers roster with a solid summer league and preseason, and has now officially moved into the starting lineup over the unimpressive Isaiah Canaan. All McConnell has done in back-to-back games is average 12 assists, and has even made history, becoming the first player in NBA history with at least 12 assists in 2 of his first 4 career games. Whether McConnell is a short-term “flash in the pan” or the real deal has yet to be determined, but his penchant for dishing out dimes should continue through this weekend.

Steals

C.J. Miles (SF/SF, IND)

Owned in 24% of Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Leagues

Weekend Schedule: Sunday, Nov. 8 @ Cleveland

ANALYSIS: In the 4 games that Miles has played for the Pacers this season, he has averaged 2 steals per contest and is playing right under 30 minutes. Those steal numbers alone are worthy of a borderline roster add. Unfortunately for Miles, the “minor injury bug” that has plagued him through his career caused him to miss Wednesday’s win over the Celtics. His status should be updated by Friday when Indiana takes the court next. If Miles sits through the weekend, target:

Alternation Injury Option: Courtney Lee (SG/SF, MEM)

Owned in 31% of Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Leagues

Weekend Schedule: Saturday, Nov. 7 @ Utah

Blocks

Festus Ezeli (C, GSW)

Owned in 10% of Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Leagues

Weekend Schedule: Saturday, Nov. 7 @ Sacramento

ANALYSIS: Ezeli has stepped into the starting lineup and fared quite well while Andrew Bogut works his way back from a concussion. In 4 starts, Ezeli has racked up 8 blocks (2 per game) and was able to contribute 3 multi-swat games. If Bogut doesn’t return to the Warriors lineup this weekend, Ezeli will provide a strong—and cheap—source of blocks. If Bogut returns, an alternative option could be Thunder big man Steven Adams who blocked 4 shots in Wednesday night’s tilt against Toronto.

Three Pointers

Marcus Thornton (SG, HOU)

Owned in 16% of Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Leagues

Advertising

Weekend Schedule: Saturday, Nov. 7 @ LA Clippers

ANALYSIS: Thornton managed to find his way into Houston’s starting five after missing the first two games of the season. Since returning, he has played 31, 37, and 29 minutes respectively, connecting on 9 from downtown. With Terrence Jones out with an eye injury, Houston has gone to a small-ball lineup, featuring Thornton at a forward position. The Rockets have been scoring a ton of points, and need Thornton’s long-range ability to open up the floor.
