NBA Waiver Wire: Guards (Week 6)

RotoBaller's Week 6 coverage begins with guards this week for a change.  The waiver wire is filled with potential hidden gems at the guard position. All four guys have been putting up solid numbers for the last week. Their 7 and 14 day averages show a pattern of consistent play that might warrant roster consideration, especially in deeper leagues.

Be sure to check out RotoBaller's other Week 6 NBA coverage, including our Week 6 Waiver Wire Forwards and Week 6 Waiver Wire Centers.

Position Eligibility & Ownership Rate Based on Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Player List

NBA Week 6 Waiver Wire: Guards

Isaiah Canaan (PHI, PG) 20% Owned

Canaan has been going off the last week for 21.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.3 steals, 1.3 blocks, and 3.9 turnovers per game. He's averaging 41 minutes a game during that span as the team is trying to figure out how to stop the worst start in NBA history. With Tony Wroten, Kendall Marshall, and Nik Stauskas all battling injuries, Canaan is left with a lot of playing time. There simply isn't much competition around Canaan right now so he's worth the pick up in most leagues as he' will continue to get heavy minutes until Wroten and Marshall come back.

Matt Barnes (MEM, SG/SF) 10% Owned

Barnes has had six straight double digit scoring efforts as he's had to play extra minutes because of an injured Zach Randolph. Actually, over the last week Barnes has been filling it up in most categories with an average of 8.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and three 3-pointers a game. He won't be able to keep up most of these, but the Grizzlies as a team seem to be getting their rotation together with Barnes being an important part of it. While he might get less time as the season goes on, it seems that Barnes is going to get a healthy amount of minutes where he's capable of doing a little bit of everything.

Shane Larkin (BKN, PG) 2% Owned

Larkin has seen a general uptick in his minutes over the last two weeks. During that solid two week sample size he's putting up 10.5 points, 4.3 assists and 1.5 threes per game. Larkin won't be getting anything more than 20 minutes a game this season but if he can contribute the way he has over the last few weeks that might be all he needs to do to be worthy of a fantasy roster spot in deep leagues. The Nets are rebuilding (despite the fact that their 2016 first round draft pick goes to the Celtics no matter what) and most players will be auditioning for both Brooklyn and other franchises as the season goes on. Larkin signed a small money deal and will be hoping to prove he belongs in the league all year long. Usually the combination of a bad team and a young guy trying to prove himself makes for serious fantasy potential. He is a player to keep an eye on, especially if Jarret Jack gets injured.

Thabo Sefolosha (ATL, SG/SF) 6% Owned

Sefolosha has slowly been eased back into a more dominant role in the Hawks' offense as he recovers from a broken leg. Over the last week he has looked a lot like the player from last year who nearly put up a double-double while mainly playing on the wing (10.3 points/8.2 rebounds in 2014-15). Thabo is currently putting up 11 points, 5.7 rebounds and a one 3-pointer a game over his last four games. The healthier Sefolosha gets, the more consistent he should be. With the absence of DeMarre Carroll and only Kent Bazemore and Mike Scott to play out on the wing the Hawks desperately need Sefolosha to play a lot and to play well.
