It's never too early to start streaming. Whether you have an opening due to an injury, you auction-drafted a crew of stars and scrubs, or you just didn't bother putting any effort into your last couple draft picks, you probably have a player or two on your team who isn't must-own. You're better off using that roster spot to stream players to eke out wins in close categories in your weekly head-to-head matchups.

This year, RotoBaller will be making weekly recommendations for extreme short term category specialists every week in all six counting stat categories (points, assists, threes, rebounds, steals, and blocks). Your week one offensive category streamers for points, threes, and assists are below. All position eligibility and ownership percentages are based on Yahoo! fantasy leagues.

Three Points Made Streamer

Nick Young, SG/SF, LAL, Opponents: Fri vs. GSW, Sat vs. PHX (8% Owned in Yahoo)

For some reason, Nick Young is starting and, per Luke Walton, will continue to start. That’s a head scratcher. Jordan Clarkson and Lou Williams both started in pre-season play with no indication of Uncle P receiving any relative minutes. Nope. For all we know, Young could start all season.

To be fair, Nick Young hasn’t been all that bad averaging 2.0 3PTM in 26.7 MPG. It pains me to say it, but he’s got value for treys if he’s going to see 25+ MPG for the Lakers. In his four years with the Lakers, he’s hitting 1.8 3PTM on 5.1 3PA, so the threes are nothing new for the Lakeshow.

Over the weekend, Los Angeles will face two of the top-four paced offenses in Golden State (105.6) and Phoenix (104.8). Add in that the Lakers sit in the top-10 for pace (103.2) and Swaggy suddenly becomes incredibly streamable. Young is a great candidate to contribute the deep ball against those up-tempo teams over the weekend and he’s widely available in standard and deep leagues.

Points Streamer

Wilson Chandler, SG/SF, DEN, Opponents: Thurs @ MIN, Sat @ DET, Sun @ BOS (18% Owned in Yahoo)

After starting the season at shooting guard, Will Barton sprained his ankle late against the Raptors on Monday. He was spotted with crutches after the game, but is officially ruled as day-to-day. The Nuggets are already thin on the wings and this injury doesn’t help. Gary Harris (groin) is questionable for Thursday’s tilt against the Wolves and even if he does return, will probably be limited. That leaves shooting guard depth for Denver with Jamal Murray (12.2 MPG) and Malik Beasley (0.0 MPG). Not great.

Wilson Chandler has averaged 30.4 MPG off the Denver bench and has been playing multiple positions (SG/SF/PF) under Mike Malone. Whether starting or not, he should see heavy minutes on the perimeter because of their current situation. He’s averaging 10.7 PTS in three games, but is shooting the ball terribly (36.4 FG%). Although, he should get better as the season progresses since he’s a career 44.2% from the field.

Denver has three remaining games from Thursday to Sunday, so Chandler’s point totals should be strong for a late-week pickup owned in less than 20% of leagues.

Assists Streamer

TJ McConnell, PG, PHI, Opponent: Saturday vs. CLE (2% Owned)  

After losing the positional battle with Sergio Rodriguez for the starting point guard spot, TJ McConnell has been relegated to a bench role. However, he’s averaged 5.4 APG in only 17.0 MPG for the Sixers. For the early season, that puts him 36 in APG among league leaders and would be ready to put up double-digit assists if Spanish Chocolate were to go down.

Jerryd Bayless was supposed to start in Philly, but a wrist injury has kept him out and could do so for an extended period. This is good news for both Rodriguez and McConnell as they both hold value with Bayless out of the lineup.

There is a blowout factor against the Cavs on their Saturday matchup, which may net McConnell some extra minutes. The waiver wire is tough enough for finding assists, but he’s looking like a solid streaming specialist in the early going. Extra points to McConnell for the football tackle on Ibaka in last night’s game.
