In this space, we will highlight recommended fantasy football waiver wire pickups to consider as candidates for Week Six of the 2013 fantasy football season, and for your fantasy football rosters.
2013 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 6 Quarterbacks
Geno Smith (QB, New York Jets)
Smith follows up a masterful performance against the Falcons with a surefire letdown game against the 0-4 Steelers. When you look past the upset win, you’ll see that the Jets didn’t ask much of Smith. He did throw for three TDs on 16-for-20, but only had 199 yards while the Jets ran the ball for most of the game. After a 47-yard rushing performance in Week One, he hasn’t topped 21 yards since, so don’t count on him to pad his stats in that category. Interceptions remain a worry and while he may be a popular pick, carefully monitor before jumping the bandwagon.
Terrelle Pryor (QB, Oakland Raiders)
Pryor is an adequate passing QB whose running ability incrementally raises his fantasy value. Even though he is near last in passing attempts with barely over 100, his 8.13 yards/attempt are top-10, which tells you that the Raiders coaching staff is utilizing the running game to maximize their passing opportunities. The Chiefs may be able to shut down the passing game in Week Six, but as long as Pryor can break out of the pocket and rush for 30 to 50 yards with the potential for a rushing TD in any game, he deserves a long look. With a couple of more solid games like he's had, he will be a must-start in most formats.
Joe Flacco (QB, Baltimore Ravens)
Flacco is in line to have a massive passing game in a shootout this week against the strong Green Bay offense. Factor in that the Packers are the 25th-ranked passing defense, and this looks like a truly great matchup. Flacco is coming off consecutive 269- and 347-yard performances that have only been undermined by his propensity to throw picks. But considering that the Packers' porous pass defense has only two INTs this year, Flacco is worth a roll of the dice in Week Six.
