NHL DFS Lineup Picks (3/31/16): FanDuel & DraftKings Daily Fantasy Hockey Advice

Welcome to the Daily Fantasy Hockey (NHL DFS) lineup picks article for March 31st of the 2015/2016 NHL season. Each day we'll be providing you with a handful of forward, defensemen, and goaltender picks for DraftKings and FanDuel GPP and cash games.

Tonight we have a large 10 game slate with a ton of heavy home favorites. The Calgary Flames and Ottawa Senators are the only teams playing on back to back nights but five teams (BUF, CGY, NSH, SJ, TOR) are playing a third game in four nights.

As of writing this only three goalies (Mike Smith-ARI, Joni Ortio-CGY, and Craig Anderson-OTT) are confirmed starting for their teams. Be sure to check LeftWingLock prior to game time to confirm all starting goalies.

NHL DFS Picks for Thursday, March 31st

A couple strategy notes. For cash game construction look for players who can contribute to your score when they are not providing offense. Examples are guys who take a ton of shots, defensemen who block a lot of shots(DraftKings). Also, look for guys who get powerplay time and especially Top 6 forwards. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury or just get a promotion and more ice time.

For large field tournaments (GPP's) you want to find payers who have multi point upside and can grab double digit fantasy points. To stack the most upside in your forwards a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone. Try and look for a D man who will be playing more PP time or might get a boost in overall playing time due to an injury.

Let's take a look at some solid plays for today's action.

Devan Dubnyk - Goaltender, Wild (Draftkings - $8,300  FanDuel - $8,800)

The Wild beat up on the Blackhawks last game and Dubnyk benefited by only seeing 19 shots, saving 18 of them to extend his winning streak to six games. He has been incredible towards the end of the season as the wild try to hold onto the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. He gets a much more favorable matchup tonight as the Wild get a home matchup vs. the Senators plalying on back to back nights.

Jeff Carter - Center, Kings (DraftKings - $6,300  FanDuel - $7,000)

The Kings have struggled to score goals recently with two or less in five of their last six games. Carter's fantasy production hasn't dipped over those games as he has fired 22 shots on goal over his last four games and has shown his upside with a three point game vs. the Oilers on Saturday. The Kings get a terrific matchup on Thursday as they face the Flames playing on back to back nights in California after getting destroyed by the Ducks last night.

Joe Pavelski - Winger, Sharks (DraftKings - $7,500  FanDuel - $8,200)

He is coming off back to back multi point games extending his point streak to four straight games. Over his last 10 games he has 11 points (five on the powerplay) and added 30 shots on goal and a  +2 rating. The Sharks should be fully motivated tonight as only four points separate them and the Ducks for the Pacific Division lead.

Anthony Duclair - Winger, Coyotes (DraftKings - $3,800  FanDuel - $5,000)

He makes a terrific value play tonight on his own and stacking him with Max Domi makes a contrarian GPP approach vs. the Stars. Duclair is coming off a game in which he scored two powerplay goals extending his point streak to four games. The Coyotes haven been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs so expect another fast paced, high scoring game as they travel to face the Stars who rank 20th in defense.

Victor Hedman - Defense, Lightning (DraftKings - $6,000  FanDuel - $6,100)

He is currently going through one of his best offensive stretches of the season with points in five of his last six games. He has provided a safe floor in that time with 12 shots on goal, 10 blocks and a +8 rating. He has also provided nice upside for GPP's with two multi point games in his four played. The Bolts get a favorable home matchup on Thursday as the Canadiens come to town.
