NHL DFS Picks for Wednesday, April 27th

A couple strategy notes. For cash game construction look for players who can contribute to your score when they are not providing offense. Examples are guys who take a ton of shots, defensemen who block a lot of shots(DraftKings). Also, look for guys who get powerplay time and especially Top 6 forwards. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury or just get a promotion and more ice time.

For large field tournaments (GPP's) you want to find payers who have multi point upside and can grab double digit fantasy points. To stack the most upside in your forwards a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone. Try and look for a D man who will be playing more PP time or might get a boost in overall playing time due to an injury.

Let's take a look at some solid plays for today's action.

Frederick Andersen - Goaltender, Ducks (DraftKings - $8,300 FanDuel - $9,500)

Andersen suffered his first loss of the playoffs in game six against the Nashville Predators, but it certainly wasn't from of a lack of effort. Andersen allowed only two goals and saved 23 shots. He hasn't let up more than two all series and has been one of the steadiest options between the pipes for Daily Fantasy. The Ducks host game seven in Anaheim. Look for Andersen to shine the brightest when it means the most.

John Tavares - Center, Islanders (DraftKings - $8,000 FanDuel - $9,500)

How could you not want to draft Tavares after his game six performance against the Florida Panthers. Thanks to JT's game-tying goal with 54 seconds left in regulation and his game-winning wrap-around goal in double-overtime, the New York Islanders have advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in 23 years. Tavares was a beast all series, finishing with nine points (five goals, four assists) in six games. The Islanders will certainly be tested versus the Tampa Bay Lightning so we can expect JT to bring his A-game once again.

Tyler Johnson - Center, Lightning (DraftKings - $5,900 FanDuel - $6,400)

With Steven Stamkos expected to miss game one of the series versus the Islanders, Tyler Johnson is the Bolts top center. He found success in the first round against the Detroit Red Wings, posting seven points (two goals, five assists) in five games. He broke out for four of those points in game two, scoring two and assisting two, and is more than capable of replicating that performance at any given time. Even without Stamkos, the Lightning are a dangerous team because of guys like Johnson.

Nikita Kucherov - Winger, Lightning (DraftKings - $7,400 FanDuel - $8,200)

Speaking of dangerous players on the Lightning. Kucherov is the top winger option on Wednesday and will certainly do all he can to continue picking up the slack in the absence of Stamkos. Kucherov also put together a productive series against the Red Wings, collecting eight points, scoring five and assisting three. He posted two multi-goal games and three multi-point games, and has had a knack for putting the puck on net quite a bit.

Andrew Cogliano - Winger, Ducks (DraftKings - $3,800 FanDuel - $4,300)

Cogliano could very well be one of those aforementioned unlikely heroes during game seven Wednesday night. He's already scored and assisted twice in the series, and can tally some blocked shots and shots on goal. Cogliano is very affordable and could prove to be very important for the Ducks.

Jason Garrison - Defenseman, Lightning (DraftKings - $3,900 FanDuel - $3,200)

Anton Stralman is also in danger of missing game one of the second round. If he does, Garrison gets a boost in fantasy value and could move up to the first defensive pairing alongside Victor Hedman. Garrison has tallied two helpers so far this postseason and put the puck on net five times in the series-clincher versus the Red Wings. He holds value in both DraftKings and FanDuel as he blocks a decent amount of shots and spends a decent amount of time in the penalty box.

Cam Fowler - Defenseman, Ducks (DraftKings - $4,900 FanDuel - $3,600)

After posting an assist in game one against the Predators, Fowler failed to pick up a point in Anaheim's next three games. But the defenseman efficiently broke out for two points (one goal, one assist) in his past two games, and will look to ride his momentum into game seven. Fowler can also provide plenty to Daily Fantasy lineups without scoring or assisting as he's blocked a total of 14 shots in six first round games. Although more beneficial for DraftKings, Fowler should be used on both DFS sites, in tournaments and head-to-head's.
