NHL DFS Prop Picks for 4/6 - PrizePicks

Hello everybody and welcome! We have finally reached the debut of NHL DFS on PrizePicks and that means our new friends over at PrizePicks have a TON of great props we can look to take advantage of. PrizePicks is a great DFS props site where you can choose to select plays in terms of fantasy points or single stats. The goal is to build a 2-player, 3-player, 4-player, or 5-player entry and then select whether or not you want to play for the power play or the flex play. On the power play, you will need to be correct on each of your selections to win, and on the flex play, you will have a little more wiggle room for a chance to win some money back.

Our partners at PrizePicks offer some of the best, and easiest to win, NHL DFS games in the industry. There are no large-field tournaments filled with sharks where you have to get lucky just to place. At PrizePicks, you're not playing against other people, you're just playing against the projections, and the guys at PrizePicks have worked hard to give you really attractive opportunities to make some money. With promo code 'BALLER' you can get a 100% match on your deposit up to $100.

PrizePicks has two types of games. The first type of game is known as Fantasy Score, which consists of selecting various players and trying to determine if they will go over or under their projected fantasy points in a game. The second game is known as Single Stat. For NHL, Single Stat consists of save and shooter shot props in which you determine if the goalie or shooter in question will go over or under their projected save and shot total respectively. You can mix and match players from each type of game in your entry or select all of your plays from the same type of game. Once you have selected your players and props, you can choose the aforementioned flex play or power play option. For today's article, we are going to try and focus on the main board's Fantasy Score and see which players may go over or under their projected point totals. Let's see what the board offers today!

Fantasy Score Point Totals

Alex Ovechkin Over 5 Points. Ovechkin enjoyed one hot March where he tallied ten goals. More importantly, Ovechkin is back up to nearly four shots a game after a not so inspiring start to the season. Even his shooting percentage, which was in single digits is back up to 14.1% -- right in line with the last several seasons. The one concern with playing the New York Islanders is their ability to slow down Ovechkin shot wise (two shots per game this season). They do get in shooting lanes often. The good news is for Ovechkin owners is that he has a goal and two assists in those matchups. Ovechkin will block a shot or two occasionally as well. Shots and blocked shots are a half point each so they add up quickly. If Ovechkin scores a goal, he likely hits the over based on what he has done lately.

Evander Kane Over 3.6 Points. Out of nowhere, San Jose has gone on a streak. One of the bigger reasons is the balanced scoring of a player like Evander Kane. Kane has 33 points in 37 games but for fantasy purposes here, he has averaged 3.4 shots per game This may be the best sustained run of his career and the winger has seven points (three goals) versus the Anaheim Ducks this season. He is averaging nearly four shots a game against them as well. What is crazy in all of this is that Kane is playing a more defensive role (43% offensive zone time) while doing all this. With Anaheim rebuilding, wins or losses do not matter like they do for San Jose and Kane.

David Backes Under 2.6 Points. We would argue here to take the under on most Anaheim Ducks players but particularly on Backes here who is essentially seeing third even fourth-line ice time for Anaheim. Playing just 12-13 minutes a night in a mostly checking role is not good for piling up fantasy points of any kind. He has just two goals in 11 games on the season. Worse, he has just eight shots on goal in his last five games. There is the 1.3 blocked shots per game but with goals and assists seeming to have dried up, it is hard to see Backes hitting the over. Anaheim has some low totals though so they may be a team to eye in future days and weeks.

Roman Josi Over 3.4 Points. This seems a bit low of a total for Josi and there is some risk here. Josi has not scored a goal in six meetings against the Detroit Red Wings this season. However, he has eight assists, is averaging nearly four shots a game, and averaging 1.67 blocks a contest. Josi has run a bit cold of late with shots but does have two goals and seven helpers in his previous ten games. Basically an assist and three shots/blocked shots combined gets him to the over. Given the numbers this year and Nashville's recent hot run, that's not unreasonable.

Sam Reinhart Over 3 Points. Reinhart is kind of like Dylan Larkin of the Detroit Red Wings tonight. They should both hit the over based on lower than expected projected totals. The difference with Reinhart is he often has success against New Jersey. Three goals and two assists in four meetings this season on ten shots and eight scoring chances. New Jersey's penalty kill has been in the bottom three all year and Buffalo still has Reinhart and Taylor Hall on the roster. Also, Reinhart has six goals and ten assists on the road in 18 contests. His road numbers more than double his home totals.
