The young fireballer known as Thor was absolutely electric in 2015. On a rotation that featured Matt Harvey and Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard was actually able to one-up them in terms of his K/9 rate. Thor struck out 10 batters per nine innings, while deGrom and Harvey struck out 9.7 and 8.9 batters per nine innings respectively. The impressive part? That was as a rookie. It's scary to think that Syndergaard will continue to improve, because he could potentially become the best pitcher on the staff. I'm not even talking about down the line, I'm talking about this season.
Syndergaard posted a 2.91 xFIP last season and does not walk many batters. He pitches in a weak hitting division with a pitchers' ballpark, and he has a retooled team backing him up. Pitching is obviously deep so there's no need to overpay to draft Thor, but once some of the bigger names are off the board Syndergaard is a great pick. I'm sure there will be a lot of people who will pass on Syndergaard because they're afraid of a sophomore slump. There is a chance of regression, but this kid has an electric fastball and a devastating curve. I'm all in on Thor.
