BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep Leagues
ANALYSIS: Considering how many questions per week I seem to get about the 2nd base position, I'm surprised Omar Infante's ownership tag currently sits at 19% in Yahoo! I realize that 2nd base is deeper than a lot expected this year, but Infante does have 7 RBIs, 5 runs and 7 hits, including a grand slam, over his last 6 games. What else does he have to do to get your attention as a deep league middle infielder? Here is why you should be paying attention to Infante: despite his leg injury making him miss a month he was having the season of his career last year hitting 10 HRS, 51 RBIs, and a .318 AVG for the season. He was a sought after commodity at 2nd base during the off season suggesting that many teams liked his ability to play, not just the Royals. To date he is only hitting for a .251 AVG, but he has 5 HRs, and 41 RBIs in about half the at-bats he had last season. Also good news for those of you worried about the average: his K-rate is down, his walks are up, and his BABIP is well below norms suggesting that the average may in fact find it's way up. At 33, Infante is no spring chicken but any 2nd baseman who is currently on pace for 70+ RBIs and due to get more hits is worth a look in deep leagues at the least. Let's get that ownership rate up owners!
