ANALYSIS: Like many pitchers, Corbin didn’t enjoy his start at Coors Field on Saturday night, which inflated his ERA to 3.89 and WHIP to 1.40. Putting those numbers aside is important, however, as Corbin is currently posting a career-best 11.5% swinging strike rate, leaving upside for Corbin to boost his strikeout numbers as the season wears on. Likewise, his first pitch strike rate is also a career best, meaning he has been able to put the ball where he wants it. This has translated to a 6.9% walk rate, right at his career rate and far better than his 9.4% from last season. The result has been five quality starts in seven chances this season.
Now is the time buy on Corbin as many owners will be scared off due to his start in Coors. Savvy owners will realize that was a small bump in what otherwise appears to be the beginning of a successful campaign for Corbin, who may finally be back to form after Tommy John surgery in 2014.
