Pedroia (Hamstring) Takes Batting Practice For First Time Since Injury

Dustin Pedroia is making progress from a hamstring injury as the Boston Red Sox second baseman took batting practice for the first time since late July, according to The Boston Globe.

The hamstring has hindered Pedroia’s second half of the season while the Red Sox continue to dip in the standings. The 32-year-old infielder has missed all but 75 games this season while landing on the DL more than once.

The platelet-rich plasma treatment he was given apparently accelerated the healing process as batting practice wasn’t expected for another week. Pedroia could potentially be back by September. Boston is in last place of the AL East and is one game out from the worst record in the AL.

When healthy, Pedroia had a .287 BA with 9 HR and 34 RBI. He’s arguably the heart and soul of the Red Sox that helped the team to two World Series championships during his 10-year career.
