Salvador Perez is in the lineup Saturday for the Kansas City Royals despite dealing with an issue with his hand.
The Royals catcher will bat seventh and catch for Game 2 of the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays. There was almost no doubt that Perez would be back in the lineup for the early start on Saturday after he was hit on a backswing by Josh Donaldson on Friday.
Kansas City’s only homer on Friday came off the bat of Perez. The 25-year-old is one of the best catchers in the game with a .260 BA, 21 HR and 70 RBI this season. He had a slow start to last year’s postseason until a .333 BA in the World Series. This season, Perez has a .286 BA with 2 HR and 4 RBI over six games.
Yordano Ventura will be on the mound for the Royals as they throw out the same starting lineup from the 5-0 Game 1 victory: 1) Alcides Escobar SS, Ben Zobrist 2B, Lorenzo Cain CF, Eric Hosmer 1B, Kendrys Morales DH, Mike Moustakas 3B, Perez C, Alex Gordon LF and Alex Rios RF.
