PGA DFS: DraftKings Fantasy Golf Sleeper Picks and Advice for the RSM Classic

Graeme McDowell, -18, held off Russell Knox and Jason Bohn in a playoff to win the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. I actually picked Bohn last week, with the addition of Jerry Kelly and Michael Thompson, both -7. But I took three players who missed the cut, Carlos Ortiz, Charley Hoffman, and Jhonatthan Vegas. I never pick three players who end up missing the cut. Let's call it an anomaly.

This week the PGA Tour is back in America! The RSM Classic, formerly the McGladrey Classic, will be played at the Sea Island Resort in Georgia. Due to the field from 132 to 156 players, golfers will be playing the Seaside Course and Plantation Course in the first two rounds. For the weekend though, the tournament is played on the Seaside Course.

Per the course website, "Seaside is the pinnacle of links golf. Situated at the southern tip of St. Simons Island at The Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club, this oceanside course places a premium on careful shot selection, recovery, and putting." The Seaside course features 12 Par 4's, ranging from 360 yards to 439 yards. They are on average, about 400 yards, not long.

The Plantation Course, per the course website, "Unfolds among a forest of ancient live oak and cedar, with a hint of danger lurking in its tidal creeks and lakes... boasts expansive fairways that give definition to the course, showcasing beautiful views of the ocean, oaks, and blooming flowers – enticing the accomplished and inviting the novice."

Last year, Robert Streb won in a playoff against Brendon de Jonge and Will MacKenzie. I will not be focusing the stats and picks much on the Plantation Course, as golfers only play one round. The Seaside Course is the one to look at, as golfers play three rounds there. My stats will be focused on the Seaside Course. Players who play well on links style courses should also be targeted.

Editor's Note: Our Partner DraftKings is hosting another huge Fantasy Gold tournament on November 19th. The $110K Birdie is free to enter, and it dishes out $10K to the first place finisher!  If you sign up and make a deposit now, you’ll get a 100% bonus on your first DraftKings deposit and we’ll also give you free access to RotoBaller’s Premium 2015 Fantasy Football NFL Draft Kit (a $39.99 value).

The Lineup

Justin Thomas ($10,900)

Thomas has played well all year, tying for third at the Frys, winning the CIMB Classic, and finishing tied for 27th at the HSBC Championship. His stats line up great for this tournament, 9th in SG:T2G, 35th in SG:Putting, and T4 in par 4 scoring average. He made the cut here last year, but finished 71st. With a week off  expect Thomas to continue his stellar start.

Harris English ($9,200)

So many people will be off English after he was cut last week. He played fairly well in his first two tournaments, T43 at CIMB and T23 at WGC-HSBC. He was cut here last year, but for some reason I expect him to play well. He is more of a gut feeling.

Scott Brown ($8,000)

Sometimes you have to trust your gut on not always the numbers. I think Brown is coming on after his 5th place finish at the OHL Classic last week. He was first cut at the Frys, did not finish at the Shriners, and finished T56 at the CIMB Classic. He will be very low owned, so if he plays well, you will have a huge advantage.

Jhonattan Vegas ($7,400)

I am still on the Vegas bandwagon even after he was cut at the OHL Classic. He is 31st in SG:T2G, and 47th in SG:Putting. Besides for the missed cut last week, Vegas has two top ten finishers, and a T43 at the Shriners Open. Look for him to get back on track.

Aaron Baddeley ($7,300)

Badly has had his one good tournament, T4th at Sanderson Farms, sandwiched by two bad finishes, T55 at Frys and T46 at OHL Classic. I like Baddeley for this links style course. He is 12th in scrambling, 18th in SG:Putting and T53 in Par 4 Scoring Average. He finished T48 here last year, but I expect him to play much better this time around.

Dawie van der Walt ($7,100)

I like picking players who are progressively playing better and van der Walt is one of them. His scoring average per round has gotten better each week; 72, cut at the Frys, 70.5, cut at the Shriners, 69.8  T33 at Sanderson Farms, 68.5, T17 at OHL Classic. He is 35th in SG:T2G. I really believe he will play well and surprise many.
