BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep Leagues
ANALYSIS: We had a hunch that moving from homer haven Yankee Stadium to homer graveyard Target Field would really help Phil Hughes. He is a heavy fly ball pitcher, and Target field is where fly balls go to die. Not only has Hughes slashed his HR/FB rate from ~12% over the past two years to 6.9% in 2014, he's also become an elite control artist, allowing only 1.31 BB/9. His strikeouts (7K/9IP) won't kill you either. It seems Hughes' confidence has been given a huge boost by getting out of the New York spotlight and pitching for the Twins, as he is pounding the strike zone relentlessly, not falling behind hitters, and making them swing at bad pitches outside of the zone. Once his .328 BABIP comes down, and it will about 20-30 points, Hughes ERA and WHIP will come down as well, and he will look like the solid back end of the fantasy rotation starter that he is, rather than waiver wire fodder. If you play in a deep league, add Hughes before a few solid starts alert your fellow league members to this underrated fantasy asset.
