Phillies activated Domonic Brown from the 15-day DL, then immediately optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, according to MLB.com.
A highly touted prospect at one point in the Philadelphia farm system, Brown hasn’t quite lived up to the hype. The 27-year-old outfielder was struggling in the minors this season before landing on the DL with left Achilles tendinitis.
Brown had a .189 (10-for-53) BA with one home run and a .573 OPS over 15 games between High-A Clearwater and Triple-A Lehigh Valley during his minor league rehab assignment, according to MLB.com.
After an all-star appearance in 2013, Brown’s offensive production has slipped. He had a career high in RBI (83), BA (.272), SLUG (.494), OPS (.818) and HR (27). He followed that season with 10 HR, a .235 BA, .349 SLUG and a .634 OPS in 2014.
Brown has been up and down from the majors to the minors throughout his career. He’s going to have to prove himself again if he wants to get back on the Phillies’ roster.
Jeff Francoeur and Grady Sizemore will continue to see playing time in his absence.
