The Philadelphia Phillies recalled Maikel Franco from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and will give him a chance to be the everyday third basemen from now on.
Cody Asche was sent down to make room for Franco. As the Phillies continue to go through a rebuilding process, they will give the young guys a shot. The 22-year-old Franco is going to get his opportunity and he comes in red-hot.
Franco has a .355/.384/.539 batting line with four homers and 24 RBI over 151 plate appearances for Lehigh Valley. He has been playing in the Phillies’ farm system since he was 17-years-old. He’s finally getting his chance to shine where it matters most.
Asche is transitioning from third base to left field, but will get used to the position in the minors. The 24-year-old hasn’t quite found his niche on the major league level as this season. He has a .245 BA, two homers and four RBI in 113 plate appearances.
