Keon Broxton has been called up and will join the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday as they begin a four-game series against the Rockies in Colorado.
The 25-year-old outfielder had a .273/.357/.438 batting line with 10 HR and 39 SB in 133 games this season between Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis. Broxton will have the opportunity to provide depth off the bench for a Pittsburgh team that is four games out of first place in the NL Central while holding a two-game lead for the first Wild Card spot.

The changes of him making the postseason roster will be tough but if he does produce when called upon, Broxton could be a surprise addition in October. The seven-year minor leaguer has strung together a few solid seasons in a row. This could be his best chance to prove he should stay at the highest level.
Broxton would have been a minor league free agent after the season and would have been eligible for the Rule 5 draft, so adding him to the 40-man protects the Pirates from losing him in either fashion.
