Piscotty (Head) Test Come Back Negative After Nasty Collision

The initial scans performed on Stephen Piscotty have come back negative after the St. Louis Cardinals outfielder collided with Peter Bourjos on Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Piscotty is lucky to not suffer a serious injury to his head after the collision. The 24-year-old rookie was attempting to make a catch on a hit to deep left-center. At the same time, Bourjos was attempting to come in from center to make the catch. Both players dove at the same time with Bourjos making a spectacular catch while Piscotty dove head first into his legs. The rookie was out cold.

"We couldn't hear each other," Bourjos told MLB.com. "The ball was just hit between us, and we both tried to make a play on it. The situation in the game, I think we both thought if the ball fell it might be the outcome of the game. You could just tell that Stephen wasn't right and that he needed some help."

One teammate even thought he was paralyzed. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny indicated that there shouldn’t be any long-term damage. He’s staying overnight at a local hospital and will be out indefinitely for the time being.

The Cardinals won the game 3-0 and extended their NL Central lead to four games with five games left to be played.
