Yasiel Puig is doing somewhat of a rehab assignment as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.
The Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder isn’t running the bases or playing the field in these instructional games. The team is continuing to take baby steps with the 24-year-old former All-Star. There’s a good chance he won’t be able to compete in the first round of the postseason against the New York Mets.
"Right now, it's just not part of the equation," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly told The Los Angeles Times about Puig potentially joining the team in the first round. "When it becomes part of the equation, then we'll think about it a lot more."
Puig has only competed in 77 games this season. He has 11 HR with 38 RBI and a .256 BA. When he’s healthy and gets going, he can carry a team on his back with his bat.
Puig is still only running at about 80 percent. If he doesn’t make the 25-man roster for the first round, he would have to wait until Oct. 17, which is the scheduled start of the second round.
