Albert Pujols underwent surgery on his foot last week and will be out of action for the next 4 1/2 months.
The Angels slugger had a plantar plate repaired in his right foot. Pujols will now likely miss Opening Day for the 2016 season. The plantar fasciitis issue has been a nagging problem to the 35-year-old for the last few seasons. Apparently the pain was strong enough to finally undergo surgery to repair the issue. He won’t likely be able to resume baseball activities until late March. Since he’s going into his 16th MLB season, it’s very possible he won’t be in the lineup until after the start of the season.

Dynasty owners are already iffy on keeping Pujols because of his age. This past season was the first All-Star appearance for the future hall of famer in five years. He finished with a meager .244 BA but did have 40 HR, which was his most since 42 in 2010. He also drove in 95 and did play in 157 games. Health is always an issue with older players but he’s been able to stay on the field for the most part. There’s no telling what a healthy Pujols will mean for 2016 with Mike Trout in that lineup with him. Even if he isn't kept because of the injury, he's still a player worth taking early in all drafts.
