Week 16 QB Outlooks: Blake Bortles, Matthew Stafford to Shine?

Each and every week, it’s imperative that you and your fantasy team put up some awesome points at the quarterback position. Seems simple enough, right? Unfortunately, this is one of those things that’s nearly always easier said than done.

That said, if you’re looking to get beyond the low-lying fruits of the league’s biggest quarterback stars, this weekend, look no further than Blake Bortles and Matthew Stafford. Both have been making these kinds of lists in recent weeks and there’s a reason for it—their production has been nothing short of impressive.

Let’s start things off with Bortles. Lately, he’s been an absolute stud for fantasy owners. More than anything, the key to Bortles’ success has been found in his ability to take advantage of favorable matchups, and this week should be no different. No joke—in his last four games, Bortles has put up at least 25 fantasy points in most standard leagues.

It’s been a quiet 25-points-per-game, but effective play has nevertheless become a mainstay of Bortles’ game. And the best part of it all? This weekend, he’ll be facing the New Orleans Saints’ defense. Needless to say, there’s reason to believe that Bortles will put up another great performance for fantasy owners come Sunday.

But Bortles isn’t the only quarterback to be seeing some late-season success out on the gridiron. Currently, Stafford finds himself in a similar situation. Even better, Stafford and his offense will be facing the San Francisco 49ers and their gosh-awful pass defense this weekend at home in Detroit. Seeing as how Stafford has nabbed a minimum of 20 fantasy points in six consecutive home games, fantasy owners are in for a treat as he’s bound to rip apart the lowly 49ers.

Honestly, the only thing that could really derail Stafford’s ability to tear it up on Sunday comes from the fact that, in addition to an inability to prevent any airborne attack, San Francisco can’t stop the run. If Detroit is able to run the ball early, they’re likely to stick with it. Though there’s some risk with Stafford on Sunday, the upside of the setting is simply too good to pass on. So, don’t worry about the end of the season. Yes, things are tight, but there’s still plenty of solid quarterback talent out there.
