BALLER MOVE: Continue Scouting, Add in NL-Only Leagues
ANALYSIS: Rafael Montero has been a favorite prospect of mine since he showed us a sub 3.00 ERA last season while racking up 150 strikeouts in the minor leagues. Montero has plenty of upside for fantasy baseball, and is one in a list of potential rookie sleepers for this season, especially because he plays in a pitcher's ballpark like Citi Field. It took Dillon Gee getting injured to give Montero a chance to start, and he has not been great so far, but has shown me enough to warrant watching him closely on the waiver wire.
Montero has yet to record a victory this season, has a near 5.00 ERA, and has given up more than a HR per start, but there is also some good. Montero has 17 strikeouts in 16 innings, including 10 in his last start alone. Along with the strikeouts, he pitches in Citi Field for theoretically half of his starts. I am willing to let him adjust to major league hitting in my keeper leagues, but in seasonal leagues I only recommend using Montero as a potential streamer in good matchups. He will get hot in my opinion, hopefully sooner rather than later. But for now just keep an eye on him in standard leagues.
