The Texas Rangers signed recently released Colorado Rockies outfielder Drew Stubbs, according to Dallasnews.com.
Stubbs, 30, will be assigned to Triple-A Round Rock. He’ll likely have to wait until the MLB rosters expand to 40 players on Sept. 1. The Rangers are making the move to find replacements for the injured Josh Hamilton.
It’s been a dreadful season for the seven-year veteran. Stubbs owned a .211 BA with 5 HR and 10 RBI over 51 games this season, which was one year after his best MLB season. In 2014, the outfielder had a .289 BA with 15 HR, 43 RBI and 20 SB.
The Rangers have climbed their way into the second AL Wild Card spot as they currently ride a three-game winning streak. They’ve surpassed the Angels and own a 1 1/2-game lead over the Minnesota Twins for the postseason spot. They are only 3 1/2 games behind the Houston Astros for first place in the AL West.
