The Tampa Rays placed Steven Souza on the 15-day DL with a right pinkie finger laceration, according to the Tampa Tribune.
The outfielder suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch on Sunday against the New York Yankees, after he already hit a home run in the game. The DL stint is retroactive to July 6th, because Souza missed the last two games. He will likely return after the 15 days are up.
The 26-year-old is batting .210/.301/.417 with 15 homers, 33 RBI, and 10 steals over 79 games this season. For his first full MLB season, Souza hasn’t hit for average, but he’s had his positive moments at the plate. Like any rookie, Souza has had his struggles. Since the end of May, he only has 19 hits and 40 strikeouts in 111 at-bats.
Brandon Guyer and Grady Sizemore will fill up the void in the outfield while Souza spends some time on the DL.
