The Boston Red Sox activated Blake Swihart from the 15-day DL on Monday, according to The Boston Herald.
The Red Sox catcher will likely start one of the two games during Monday’s double-header against the Angels. Swihart, 23, hasn’t produced much during his rookie season but he will see some action behind the plate since Sandy Leon was designated for assignment.
Swihart has produced at a high level during his five seasons in the minor leagues. He had a .311 BA with the Red Sox’s Triple-A team. Throughout his five seasons, he had a .283 BA. With the Red Sox, he had a .241 BA with 1 HR and 11 RBI over 133 at-bats.
Boston is still in the race for the AL East despite a 42-49 record. The Red Sox are in last place and eight games out of first place but one run could catapult them right in the hunt for October.
