Red Sox Place Masterson On DL With 'Arm Fatigure'

Justin Masterson has been placed on the 15-day DL with what Boston Red Sox manager, John Farrell, said was “arm fatigue,” according to the Boston Globe.

It has been a poor 2015 for the 30-year-old, who has a 6.37 ERA in 7 starts. Masterson couldn’t get out of the third inning during his start on Tuesday, allowing six runs for the loss. There’s a chance this really could be an attempt to give the right-hander rest, rather than an excuse to let an undisclosed injury heal.

In seven starts, Masterson has seen mixed results. In his first start of the season, he allowed two runs in six innings for the win. He followed that by allowing seven runs. Masterson bounced back with three impressive starts, going a combined 18 innings, allowing six runs. His last two starts have been tough, allowing 10 runs in not even seven innings.

Steven Wright is expected to start on Sunday against the Mariners. He has barely been used out of the bullpen in three seasons with the Red Sox. Wright has spent most of his time in the minors, but is going to be given a chance that could be his to keep.
