Anthony Rendon will head back to the DL again for the Washington Nationals because of a strained left quad. The second baseman will go on the 15-day DL, retroactive to June 25, according to Nationals.com.
Rendon, 25, sat out Thursday’s game and was placed on the DL on Friday. He’s only played in 18 games this season. Rendon missed the first 52 games of the season due to injuries in his left knee and left oblique.
In his 18 games in 2015, Rendon has a .290 BA, 20 hits and 5 RBI. Last year, he finished fifth in the NL-MVP voting with a breakout season in what was his first true season in MLB. He had 21 HR, 83 RBI, 111 runs-scored with a .287 BA while winning a Silver Slugger award.
Danny Espinosa will handle second base while Rendon is out. Espinosa has a .266 BA with 8 HR and 20 RBI, handling the role when called upon.
Rendon will be eligible to return from the DL on July 10.
