Robbie Ray did well for Arizona once the Diamondbacks started giving him regular starts in 2015. His win/loss record won't tell the whole story, much like with his new teammate Shelby Miller. However, Ray posted a respectable 8.4 K/9 ratio, and a 3.52 ERA in 127.2 IP. The one red flag was his 1.33 WHIP, but because he is a bit of a ground ball pitcher some of those balls will find holes in the defense. Ray also didn't do himself any favors with a subpar walk rate. Despite this, there is reason for optimism.
His slightly above average K/9 rate will bail him out of some jams, and give his fantasy value a boost. The retooled rotation will also help Ray by not letting hitters get locked in. The 5-12 record should improve as Ray continues to mature, he's only 24 after all. I wouldn't go drafting him in standard leagues yet, but he's worth keeping an eye on because he could be a hot waiver wire pickup if he can put things together early in 2016.
