The Colorado Rockies declined Justin Morneau's $9 million mutual option for the 2016 season, which makes the first baseman a free agent.
The 34-year-old had two good seasons in Colorado except this season will filled with injuries. The Rockies decided to part ways with Morneau and save $9 million for next season.

Morneau finished the season with a .310/.363/.458 batting line with 3 HR and 15 RBI. Last year, he finished the season with a .319 BA, 17 HR and 82 RBI. When he was healthy, he produced quite well. He was able to return for the final few weeks of the season, which is a good sign for teams to acquire his talents for the 2016 season.
The biggest reason the Rockies have moved on from Morneau could be because of the emergence of Ben Paulsen. The 28-year-old had a .277 with 11 HR and 49 RBIs over 116 games. Paulsen could be in the heart of the lineup for the long-term in Colorado.
