Rookie Sleepers to Consider for Week 11 - Wide Receivers & Quarterbacks

Photo: Mark Runyon | Pro Football Schedules

Below I highlight a few NFL rookies that can be considered as sleepers for your fantasy teams in Week 11. These guys are still flying a bit under the radar, and have the potential to put up some fantasy points in Week 11 and down the home stretch. You can check out all my analysis on NFL rookies as I check in weekly on their fantasy impacts:

NFL Rookie Sleepers for Week 11

Aaron Dobson - WR, New England Patriots

For much of the first part of the NFL season, Dobson’s rookie status was more than obvious. He was considered a sleeper by many, but made plenty of mistakes and Brady had no reason to trust him. Fortunately for Dobson, he seems to have settled into his position and is finally playing up to his potential. In Week 9 he reached new heights with 9 targets, 130 yards, and 2 touchdowns. It was Brady’s best game of the season and for the first time, we could actually recognize the Patriots offense that we are used to seeing. We’re going to have to wait and see if it was more of a fluke than a turnaround for the offense as a whole, but I liked what I saw from the rookie. This week will be a tough matchup for the Patriots offense with the way Carolina’s defense has been playing, but Dobson has a very good matchup with Denver in Week 12 and is worth a roster spot in all leagues.

Mike Glennon - QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Just because this guy looks like he’s 15-years-old, doesn’t mean he plays like it. There is no denying the Buccaneers have had a rough season and Glennon’s name isn’t the first to pop up when considering fantasy quarterbacks. Despite his team’s record, you might be surprised to hear that this rookie QB has posted more than 17 fantasy points in four-out-of-five weeks prior to his slow night against Miami. He has a great matchup this weekend with Atlanta, a team that has allowed a ton of fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, and will enter the game with the confidence of his first win of the season behind him. He’s definitely not worth starting in some of his tougher matchups later this season, but with Mike James out against this soft Atlanta defense, there is no question that Mike Glennon is a sleeper for Week 11 and can do some damage.

Mike Brown - WR, Jacksonville Jaguars

I have to admit, I am cheating a bit here. I know Mike Brown isn’t technically a rookie but, having played just two games in his first season in the NFL. But he is as close to being a rookie that a player can be without actually being a rookie, so I am going to toss him in here. The Jacksonville Jaguars have a terrible defense, which means their offense rarely has the luxury of getting a big lead and keeping the ball on the ground. There are always plenty of opportunities for big receptions and garbage time touchdowns for Jags receivers. With Justin Blackmon out of the way, Mike Brown has stepped in as the No. 2 wide receiver behind Cecil Shorts. In his first full game last week against the Titans, Brown faced a very tough matchup - and for the first time all season, his team was able to play with the lead and avoid throwing the ball. That won’t be the case this weekend in his matchup with Arizona. What makes this a particularly great matchup for the young receiver is the coverage Shorts will get from Patrick Peterson, the Cardinals talented No. 1 cornerback. This focus on Shorts makes Brown a sleeper for Week 11, and should leave him open to have a big game - one in which the Jaguars will likely have to keep throwing the ball until the bitter end. Brown has the talent to be effective when given opportunities, especially with the coverage Shorts will receive most games. He’s reached the end zone once already this season and I don’t expect it to be the last time we see him there.
