The Kansas City Royals added infielder Raul Mondesi to their World Series roster on Tuesday.
Rosters were due on Tuesday, and in somewhat of a shocker, the Royals have called up a player that has never played in the majors. Mondesi was playing his fourth minor league season with Double-A Northwest Arkansas all season.
Prior to setting the roster, the #Royals selected INF Raul Mondesi from NW Arkansas (AA), and designated RHP Joba Chamberlain for assignment

The 20-year-old had a .243/.279/.372 batting line with 6 HR, 33 RBI and 19 SB over 81 games this season. Mondesi can play both short and second base while also able to steal bases as a possible pinch-runner. If he gets in any of the World Series games, he’d be the first player ever to make his major league debut in the Fall Classic.
While it is a shocker that the son of former big leaguer Raul Mondesi is on the roster, it might be more of a shock that Terrance Gore won’t be on the roster. Gore doesn’t have much MLB seasoning although he’s played with the Royals in the postseason over the last two years. He would have been an excellent pinch-runner used late in games.
