Ryan Fitzpatrick, welcome to the New York Jets offense, and welcome to your new spot on Fantasy Owner lineups around the world.
One $600 loan unpaid and a broken jaw later, Ivy-Leaguer Ryan Fitzpatrick replaced Geno Smith as the starting quarterback and has led a surprising New York Jets team to a 4-1 start. Yes. You read that right. The New York Jets are 4-1. And it is largely in part to the play of Fitzpatrick.
Despite his knack for turning the ball over, Fitzpatrick is a threat on the field, and on any Fantasy roster. He is a smart quarterback and takes care of the ball, for the most part. Fitzpatrick picked apart the Washington Redskins yesterday with 253 yards in the air, 31 rushing yards, two passing touchdowns, and 1 touchdown on the ground; an 18 yard sprint into the end zone, looking like Michael Vick in his prime. With weapons like Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, and a running back like Chris Ivory, who has been plowing through defenses and opening up the field, Fitzpatrick is more than capable of putting up big fantasy numbers. An outstanding New York Jets defense will keep opposing offenses off the field, resulting in plenty of chances for Fitzpatrick to throw the ball to all his reliable targets.
Fitzpatrick is still a QB2 in 10-12 team leagues, tough to trust weekly, but expect the Harvard graduate to throw the ball against the New England Patriots next week. The Jets will still always be the Jets but fans should finally be optimistic about their team, and their quarterback. Keep an eye on the beard.
