Analysis: The Amish Rifle with one thumb is still better than Geno Smith. According to ESPN.com, head coach Todd Bowles is hopeful that Fitzpatrick will play Sunday, but is still uncertain about the status of Fitzpatrick's non-throwing thumb.
"I have to see how he looks and how he takes snaps. It would be unfair for me to say he's going to be fine. I'm not a doctor."
New York Jets fans and fantasy owners are probably wishing Bowles was. Fitzpatrick hasn't put up crazy fantasy points but he's been a steady option all season, posting two touchdowns in all but two games. He's inching towards the 2,000-yard passing mark, and can pick up rushing yards weekly as well.
The Jets have the highest red zone touchdown percentage in the NFL at 62.2%, mainly in part to Fitzpatrick's ability to protect the ball. They visit the red zone an average of four times a game. Entering a must-win against the Houston Texans, the Jets will look to a hopefully able Fitzpatrick to continue his red zone production, and turn their slump around. It would be hard to imagine the Jets turning to Geno Smith in arguably their most important game of the season thus far, even with a slightly injured Fitzpatrick. If Fitzpatrick practices on Wednesday, it'll be a good sign. Monitor his status the rest of the week.
