Ryan Howard is unlikely to play again for the Philadelphia Phillies during the final five games of the season.
The first baseman was originally set to return from a bruised left knee this weekend, but it now appears that Howard will sit out for the rest of the season. Postseason contention hasn’t been in the Phillies equation for quite some time, which means risking further injury for Howard is not worth the risk. He’s owed $48 million for two more seasons.
Howard not feeling well. So, unavailable. Since he hasn't faced live pitching in more than 2 weeks, doubtful to play at all in last 5 games.

The 35-year-old has been out since Sept. 14 and still doesn’t feel healthy enough to get out there. It’s bad news for fantasy owners as they could have got a nice surprise to their starting lineups for the last three games.
Howard has a .229/.277/.443 batting line during his 12th year this season. He does have 23 HR and 77 RBI over 129 games. Injuries have kept him out of the lineup for good chunks of three of the last four seasons. He’ll likely still be with Philly next season.
