Ryan Mallett Distances Himself From Brian Hoyer

Although Brian Hoyer began the season as the Houston Texans' starting quarterback, the only way he'll see the football field again this season is if Ryan Mallett suffers an injury.

Mallett was far from perfect against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, but he seems to be getting into a bit of a groove. On Sunday he completed 24 of 29 passes for 228 yards - he also through for one touchdown and one interception.

Texans coach Bill O'Brien seems pleased with the way his quarterback is progressing.

“I think that there are certainly things to improve on, but I thought he managed the game better,” O'Brien said, according to the Houston Chronicle. “I think he got us into the right play better. I thought his mechanics were better. He was tighter in the pocket. He was a bit more accurate. He completed more balls. I think we were more balanced and I think that helped him. We were able to run the football. I thought he did a good job on third down."

Mallett benefits from having a strong arm and one of the best young receivers in the game - DeAndre Hopkins. He hasn't proved himself as a franchise quarterback, but he has proven to be better than Hoyer. Mallett is a startable quarterback in week 4 with the Texans taking on the Atlanta Falcons.
