Ryan Mallett Works Out for Ravens, Charcandrick West Practices and Devonta Freeman Cleared

Just when you think former New England Patriots and Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett may never see the football field again, the Baltimore Ravens have come knocking. Mallett worked out with the Ravens on Wednesday, but left without signing a deal.

The Ravens are likely just updating their emergency list in case something was to happen to Matt Schaub. With Flacco out, the team could use some depth at the position. And Mallett could be considered a poor-mans Flacco. He is tall and has an extremely strong arm.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Ravens signed Mallett to a multi-year deal to become their long-term backup to Flacco. But then again, I also wouldn’t be surprised if no team ever signs Mallett again.

Mallett had an opportunity to become a starter in the league earlier this season with the Texans, but he blew it. He only completed 78 of his 147 passing attempts for a completion percentage of 53.1. He had only three touchdowns and four interceptions. That said, he is still more talented that most backup quarterbacks currently in the NFL. He should be able to make a nice career as a benchwarmer if he’s able to stay out of trouble.

Charcandrick West’s fantasy football owners will be extremely happy to hear that he practiced in full on Wednesday. This comes after missing last week’s Week 12 game against the Buffalo Bills.

Unfortunately, West’s absence opened the door for Spencer Ware who has shined as the team’s back. Although West will still be considered the starter, he will likely split carries with Ware going forward.

I would consider West a RB3 against the Raiders. Normally I would consider him a RB2, but I am worried Ware will see a lot of action as well.

Thus far this season West has 373 yards on 98 rushes and three touchdowns on the ground. Meanwhile Ware has 234 yards on 36 carries and four touchdowns on the ground.

Speaking of running backs making their fantasy football owners happy, Atlanta Falcons’ Devonta Freeman has finally been cleared to play after suffering a concussion in Week 11. Freeman is expected to play in Week 13 and he has a fantastic matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

I would consider Freeman a must start RB1 this week. He has played great thus far this season as the team’s starter. He has recorded 764 yards on the ground and nine touchdowns. Plus he has an additional 420 yards receiving and another two touchdowns through the air
