C.C. Sabathia delivered a great start on Sunday night as the New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets 11-2 for the series victory.
Sabathia earned his fifth victory of the season but more importantly, it was his second straight quality start. The left-hander allowed one run while scattering five hits over innings. The 15-year veteran allowed his only run against in the first inning. From there, Sabathia was able to get in a groove. He's only allowed two runs over his last three starts.
Sabathia’s ERA is now at 4.80 ERA while his WHIP improved to 1.42. The 35-year-old hasn’t had the best season though he’s been a lot better lately as the postseason looms. His next start is set for Friday against the Chicago White Sox.
The Yankees hold a four-game lead for the first Wild Card spot in the AL while only trailing the Toronto Blue Jays by 2 1/2 games. Now that Masahiro Tanaka will miss his next start, Sabathia will become a more important piece in the Yankees starting rotation for the last few weeks.
