BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team PPR Leagues
ROSTERED: 1% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Against all conceivable odds, the Miami Dolphins currently hold a 5-3 record and sit at second in the AFC East, and Tua Tagovailoa is just warming up for what could be an offensive surge for the aquatic mammals down the homestretch. In the ground-game department, Miami found success with Myles Gaskin early on, but since he has hit the IR, they were looking to rely on nominal contributions from the likes of Matt Breida and Jordan Howard, as deeper options such as Patrick Laird and Lynn Bowden Jr. have yet to get meaningfully involved in the offense for one reason or another. The Dolphins have also made up for the deficiency with solid rushing-volume from whoever has started at quarterback, whether it be Tua or Ryan Fitzpatrick. Then, a hamstring injury kept Breida out of this past week's play, and the window of opportunity was opened for Salvon Ahmed to make a lasting impression.
Ahmed originally joined the 49ers as an UDFA this offseason following a final season for the Washington Huskies where he took 188 carries for 1,020 yards and 11 touchdowns, and signed on to the Miami practice squad after being waived by San Francisco. In his first NFL appearance in the short-staffed Dolphins backfield, Ahmed participated in 28 offensive snaps (46%), taking seven carries for 38 yards (5.4 Y/A). In one game, Ahmed became the fourth-leading rusher on the roster behind Gaskin (IR), Fitzpatrick (no longer starting), and Breida (hurt and possibly out of Week 10). To really drive home how comparatively efficient his debut was, Howard is five yards behind Ahmed in total rushing yards and has received 21 more carries. In his limited sample, he also out-performed Gaskin and Breida in Y/A with 5.4, while the aforementioned teammates average 3.9 and 3.5, respectively. He was never much of a reception-threat in college, but with the Dolphins looking dangerous and exciting with Tua at the wheel, Salvon Ahmed might've just earned himself a place at the table entering the back-nine of the season.
